Swimming

For winter swimming, there are indoor pools in Volendam, Monnickendam and Purmerend. In the summer you can also swim outdoors in the Ijsselmeer, just across the dyke from the farmhouse. Results of official water quality checks are published annually, and in 2008, the beaches at Edam (Strandbad Edam), Volendam (Slobbeland) and Monnickendam (Hemmeland) were classed as good to excellent according to EU guidelines.
